“Mental Health Awareness & Promotion in the Workplace & Community”

Burnout and mental illness is a pervasive public health crisis and an occupational health issue. Mental health conditions are the leading cause of disability in our local community, nationally and globally. Approximately $280 billion dollars was spent on mental health services in the United States in 2020. Additionally, untreated mental illness costs the nation $105 billion dollars annually. This session will provide an enlightening high-level overview of burnout and the current state of mental health within the workplace and community. Drivers, causes, and ramifications of burnout and mental illness will be explored. During this seminar, attendees will discuss and apply real-world strategies for reducing and mitigating the stigma of mental illness. Attendees will leave this seminar with a plethora of practical resources and tools they can utilize to support mental health and well-being and create a psychologically safe workplace environment and community where people can thrive.

Seminar Objectives:

Upon completion of this 1-hour high level overview seminar provided by Dr. Kimberly Delbo & Dr. Anjani Mahabashya, participants will meet the following learning objectives:

  • Discuss statistics of mental illness in the workplace and community.
  • Apply strategies for reducing the stigma of mental illness.
  • Define a psychologically safe and healthy workplace.
  • Identify four steps to take when seeking to create a psychologically safe workplace.
  • Discuss resources and tools for supporting mental health and well-being in the workplace and community.

Qualifications:

Dr. Kimberly Delbo, DNP, RN-BC has greater than 17 years of experience from bedside to boardroom while serving in professional healthcare and nursing practice, academia and research. While working with individuals and interprofessional collaborative teams across industries and sectors, she has developed a passion to promote leadership development, leveraging empathetic design innovation, and promoting health equity while advocating for an optimal culture of health, well-being, and safety at the micro, meso, and macro system level. Dr. Delbo currently serves as an Assistant Professor at Commonwealth University of Pennsylvania. While harnessing power in partnership and innovation, Dr. Delbo enjoys functioning as a catalyst for change while promoting positive, professional, healthy workplace environments; addressing burnout; and promoting a positive, person-centered approach through the integration of evidence-based practice innovation. She serves as a transformation and optimization consultant, coach, mentor, as well as a state, national and international speaker. Additionally, Dr. Delbo is a subject matter expert when designing, developing, and delivering a variety of interactive healthcare and leadership related courses, seminars, trainings and bootcamps. Dr. Delbo is a graduate of Liberty University, Lynchburg, Va. where she obtained her doctorate in nursing practice with a focus on healthcare transformation. Additionally, she is a masters prepared nurse expert with advanced specialization in community health nursing from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania, a 2010 graduate from Slippery Rock University, and a 2006 graduate of Thomas Jefferson University. Additionally, she is a licensed Registered Nurse by the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing and a board certified gerontological nurse through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

 

Dr. Anjani Mahabashya, MD, CHCQM-PHYADV, is a System Physician Advisor at Geisinger Medical Center and serves as the Chair of the Utilization Committee for a 10-hospital system. Additionally, she holds the role of COO at Partners for a Healthy Community, where she focuses on teaching technology to seniors through community engagement. Dr. Mahabashya brings a wealth of clinical experience, having served as a Hospitalist from 2015 to 2020. She is a certified physician advisor with board certifications in Internal Medicine and Healthcare Quality and Management. Dr. Mahabashya is a public speaker, with notable engagements at TEDx events and various podcasts, emphasizing empathy in healthcare. She shared her insights on empathy skills in children on PA-Live and her TEDx talk on “How Empathy Unlocked my life.”
